about

A new voice lingering between electronic and jazz - sweet and innocent and very seductive. Nathalie Schäfer of Nekta has the listener almost in the palm of her hand, and there is a smile on the face of the listener when she sings.

Nathalie Schäfer is a professional singer, who has been backing vocalist for instance for the Marla Glen tours for years.

The Darmstadt based duo Nekta lives in the same musical kosmos like Lisa Bassenge with Micatone ort the Austrian artist Madita.

In their own studio in Darmstadt Nathalie Schäfer and sound designer Gyso Hilger polished their debut album intensively and created an atmospherical compact sound, which has a high quality for headsets.

Their versatile debut album „Water the flowers“ presents thirteen songs as an organic whole. Acoustic elements range equally besides electronics and are artfully affiliated, whereas Nathalie's vocals create the album's homogenous character.

Nathalie Schäfer who wrote the lyrics of the sophisticated songs and Gyso Hilger are highly committed to the songs. Nathalie's strong voice allows putting the folky ballad „If that's all“ very naturally besides the party track „Guess who“.

Nekta's choice of samples, showing their sense of style, in combination with keyboards, bass, guitar and supported by the trumpet players Volker Dengelmann and Moritz Mainuzsch shape the album's vivid and organic character. „History is pearshaped“ impresses by its intuitive melody patterns, stringsamples and multilayered rhythms and guides to the album's prevailing mood. „If that's all“ proves Gyso Hilger's qualities as a songwriter, as „For a while“ surprises by its hypnotic electro esthetics. In „Water the flowers“ the wafting synthesizer sounds play around trumpet and Rhodes piano.

Sound & recordings (Germany): „Nathalie Schäfer's vocal phrasings are interesting. Somewhere between Télépop music, Lasa Bassenge (Micatone) and a very tiny breeze of Bjork she formed her own space.“
