*Diem: Trinh Cong Son’s muse, her name is Diem. “Diễm” is also in “sự kiều diễm” which means “grace” or “beauty”. Trinh Cong Son loves Diem for her beauty and described her as beautiful as the name given to her.

** di bird: a kind of bird in Nha Trang (Viet Nam) who always play with the waves in the sea. Trinh Cong Son compares human with these di birds, playing in life. Di birds are also the image of the uncertainty, something hard to control, vulnerable just like love and the existence of human in this life.
